Dantea's Baby Names

{June 3, 2012}   The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

This is a book about a boy whose parents are murdered. He was a toddler when it happened and he walked out of the house and down the road to the graveyard while the man was busy killing his family. The spirits of the graveyard took him in and gave him a new name and the Freedom of the Graveyard. They raised him. The book is for young adults and filled with interesting names since the spirits come from varying time periods. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors and he thanks Rudyard Kipling for The Jungle Book which inspired this book.

Nobody Owens — The main character. He was given the name Nobody to protect him. Nickname Bod

Jack — The main villain

Silas — Bod’s protector in the graveyard. He is not a spirit and can leave the graveyard to get food for Bod.

Scarlett Amber — Bod’s friend

Ronald, Carlotta, and Misty Dorian — Bod’s murdered family

Other members of the graveyard:

Caius (pronounced ci-us)

I’m falling in love with Archibald, and Euphemia is one of those extravagant names I can’t help but love.
